What is Vishing?

'Vishing' is derived from a combination of 'voice' and 'phishing'. It is the practice of using social engineering via technology, such as your landline or mobile phone connection to trick the intended victim into disclosing personal, financial or other confidential information for financial gains.

How do attackers carry out vishing?

Most attackers will use IP-based voice technologies, such as VoIP (telephone calls that use the internet) as this allows them to spoof or mask their number easily. One of the examples is hacking into your WhatsApp and calling your contacts for money.

Typically vishing occurs when a caller claims to be an employee from a well-known company, such as a bank or client company to gain personal or financial information. The victim assumes that they are receiving a call from a legitimate entity but in fact, they are made by a malicious attacker.

How to stay safe from vishing attacks?

As with any phishing attempts, you should always remain vigilant for suspicious emails or calls. The following advice can help you avoid a fishing attack;
