It all started with a spontaneous question. I casually asked Vrinda, "Do you want to visit the Gurudwara in Nanded?" Without hesitation, she said, "Yes." And just like that, our impromptu road trip began to take shape.
We got ready and set off around 10 AM, with Google Maps estimating a 4-hour and 30-minute drive to Nanded. However, factoring in rest stops, we anticipated a journey closer to 5 or 6 hours. With our 1-year-old daughter in tow, we packed essentials—fruits, homemade Cerelac, ragi, khichdi, milk, water, medications, and electronic items like a power bank and charging cables.
Our route took us via the Outer Ring Road (ORR), heading towards Nagpur. After entering through a toll gate near Exit 1, we drove about 25 km before veering onto the Mumbai Highway. Eventually, we connected to NH161—an exceptional stretch of road with minimal traffic. For a while, it felt like we had the highway all to ourselves, cruising along in our trusty Mahindra Bolero.
Around 12:30 PM, we stopped for lunch at a roadside restaurant, recharging ourselves before resuming the drive. The highway’s serene landscape and smooth ride made the journey as enjoyable as the destination itself. By 3:15 PM, we arrived in Nanded.
Parking was convenient at Gate No. 2 of the Gurudwara, which offers a small parking area and houses an office for train and bus ticket bookings, along with an ATM. Gate No. 1, however, doesn’t have parking facilities.
Entering the Gurudwara was a serene experience. Photography inside is prohibited to maintain the sanctity of the space, but respectful photos can be taken in the open grounds. Visitors should adhere to the dress code and follow the guidelines provided by the Gurudwara management, ensuring respect for the sacred environment.
After spending a few peaceful hours at the Gurudwara, we left around 5 PM. A bit of local shopping followed—we picked up some items for Navsheen and packed paranthas for dinner. A refreshing lemon soda added the perfect zest to our evening.
We departed from Nanded at 5:30 PM, making just one brief stop for a restroom break. Despite encountering some evening traffic and truck congestion, we managed to reach home by 10:30 PM. The return journey, though slightly challenging due to traffic, was filled with reflections on the day’s experiences.
Plan for Two Days: To truly savor the journey and local culture, consider a two-day trip. This allows you to enjoy the dhabas, explore more of Nanded, and witness the Gurudwara’s vibrant nighttime lighting.
Scenic Highlights: Keep an eye out for the unique airplane-themed Gurudwaras—they’re a sight to behold. We’re definitely including them in our next trip.
Family Travel Essentials: If traveling with young children, pack plenty of snacks, homemade food, and necessary medications to ensure a comfortable trip.
Our road trip from Hyderabad to Nanded was more than just a drive; it was an enriching experience, blending scenic landscapes, cultural exploration, and spiritual tranquility. If you’re looking for a memorable journey that offers both adventure and peace, this trip is a must-do. Embrace the diversity, enjoy the vibrant local culture, and let the road unfold its stories.
